Volunteering in ABS

Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria
02/03/2025 – 30/05/2025

I am Katrin, and I just completed three months of volunteering in Bulgaria.

I knew I wanted to do something that would challenge me, help me grow, and take me out of my comfort zone. That’s why I decided to volunteer with ABS. I’ve always loved creating, designing, and taking photos, and this opportunity allowed me to do all of that and more.

When I first arrived, I felt both nervous and excited. One of the first things I noticed was how beautiful the nature in Bulgaria was. Over the months, we organized many events from Tuesday to Thursday, and we were also responsible for writing articles about them and sharing updates on Instagram and Facebook. It was a great way to improve my communication skills and learn how to reach people through social media. Each of us also had the chance to develop our own personal project. Working on mine was a highlight because it allowed me to be creative, independent, and express my ideas in a meaningful way. We also had the chance to travel around Bulgaria, and one of my favorite cities was Plovdiv. I absolutely loved it there, and I hope to return one day to explore it even more.

Throughout this journey, I gained a deeper understanding of how important youth organizations like ABS are. They give young people opportunities to learn, grow, and find direction. This experience helped me understand myself better and gave me clarity about what I want to do in the future. I’ve met so many wonderful people along the way. Each of them taught me something and left me with moments I’ll never forget.

This Project was financed by European Commission’s European Solidarity Corps Programme.
