Green jobs: A path into regerative economies

Garfe, Portugal
30/08/2025 - 08/09/2025

What was the main topic of the project?

Ilja Anikin – Learn about green jobs and permaculture

Anete Vare - Sustainable living and permaculture, also few topics about forestry.

Irene Aas – Green jobs, permaculture, water systems, eco-building, agroforestry

What was the biggest learning moment for you?

Ilja Anikin – I learned what it's like to own and care for your own land, what it's like to live in a tent for 10 days and eat only vegetarian food.

Anete Vare - Each and every one of us can contribute towards a more sustainable way of living.

Irene Aas – The biggest learning moment for me was realizing how interconnected green jobs are with the idea of regenerative economies. Before the project, I mostly thought of sustainability in more like recycling or reducing waste. But through the activities and workshops, I understood that green jobs go beyond protecting the environment – they also create new opportunities for communities, support social well-being, and build systems that can regenerate rather than exploit resources.

Do you have any plans to continue being active in the field? If yes, in which way?

Ilja Anikin – Yes, in the near future, I will think about how I can apply this knowledge in my life. For example, I will buy more indoor plants and find local farmers' markets.

Anete Vare - Yes, I would like to apply some of the main points of permaculture into my garden and housing

Irene Aas – Yes but just in my personal life for now. For example being more conscious of my ecological footprint, eating more plant-based foods. In the future if I have more opportunities to be active I would be open to them for example making conscious decisions regarding my future work to make it more green.

Would you recommend this experience to your friends? If yes, why? If no, why not?

Ilja Anikin – Yes! It's  good to step outside your “echo room” and learn something completely new

Anete Vare - Definitely, a great experience to get out of your comfort zone and to open a new way of thinking.

Irene Aas – Yes I would. Although living in a tent for 10 days can seem quite extreme, it is actually pretty easy to get used to it. I think it amplifies the experience. And meeting people where each one has something to teach you is very humbling and interesting. The experience definitely broadened my horizons on the topic and helped me gain some real-life skills regarding for example eco-building and planting.

Other comments or anything else you would like to share? You can answer in your mother tongue, if you want!

Ilja Anikin – Don't be afraid to open up to the world!Не бойтесь открыться миру!Ärge kartke maailmale avada!

Anete Vare - Incredible and interesting experience

Irene Aas – It was a really different and unique project in my opinion, I haven´t experienced anything like it before and I´m very grateful for the opportunity to have taken part in it!
