Mentoring Young People with Difficult Behaviour

What was the main topic of the project?

Lili Ann Burkland - Offer methods and tools to practice mentoring with disadvantaged young people.

Loreley Lepits - How to be a better mentor for people with challenging backgrounds.

Elina Varest - Learning the competencies required to form mentoring relationships with young people.

What were the biggest learning moments of the event for you?

Lili Ann Burkland - I learned more tools for self-reflection to use with youth people. I also learned more about childhood trauma and it's effects on development.

Loreley Lepits - Learning about different attachment styles and how they affect us as people, how to guide the mentee towards their goals and how to set boundaries.

Elina Varest - I think the moment, when after all workshops we had the opportunity to practice everything we learned.

Do you have any plans to continue being active in the field? If yes, in which way?

Lili Ann Burkland - Yes, I plan on working with youth during summer in summer camps. I can also use what I learned in my future studies and field of work.

Loreley Lepits - Yes, going to keep mentoring the kids in my summer camp.

Elina Varest - I've never thought about this sphere before this project, but now I think that I would be happy to be a mentor someday.

Would you recommend this experience to your friends? If yes, why? If no, why not?

Lili Ann Burkland - Yes, especially to those who are interested in working with youth and topic of mental health.

Loreley Lepits - I would! A great opportunity to learn about traumas, different experiences and how to be a better mentor.

Elina Varest - Yes, 100%. I think that even if you don't want to be a youth worker, this project and the people who organized everything, can very quickly influence your personal growth.
