Voices of the Next Generation: Empowering Youth in Pärnu, Estonia

From July 14th to 21st, the charming town of Pärnu, Estonia, became a vibrant hub of youthful energy and innovative thinking as it hosted the "Voices of the Next Generation" Youth Exchange. Young people from across Europe gathered for an incredible week of learning, networking, and cultural exchange. This event provided participants with the unique opportunity to dive deep into a variety of critical topics, including literacy, entrepreneurship, citizenship, multilingualism, cultural awareness, and social skills.

Throughout the week, participants engaged in interactive workshops, formed meaningful connections with peers, and built strong networks that will undoubtedly last a lifetime.

Several exercises developed during the workshops focused on enhancing participants' ability to respond to questions on how they could develop skills through advocacy activities. Among these, the young participants were asked to reflect on the following questions:

  1. When and how did you adapt your language to different people you were talking to?
  1. What did you learn about teamwork and cooperation?
  2. How can you contribute to social initiatives around you?
  3. Do you feel confident expressing yourself in a foreign language?
  4. Did you learn any creative forms of expressing yourself?
  5. What new insights did you discover about yourself to improve your personal and professional skills?
  6. What kinds of technologies are you using during the project?

These questions provided a platform for participants to gather in groups and analyse their best responses through team discussions.

In addition to brainstorming activities like this, other workshops and lectures were conducted to explore the development of soft skills such as public speaking, the ability to engage in healthy debates, basic communication knowledge, and interactive activities known as “Break the Ice” sessions. There were also outdoor activities where participants enjoyed music, dance, meals throughout the day, and rest breaks that fostered collective interaction.

Overall, the atmosphere during the event was one of relaxation, the creation of new friendships, and the development of skills that these young people can carry into their professional lives both within and outside their communities. Additionally, participants grew closer to the host institution's ongoing activities, further strengthening their connection to the event’s mission.

The event was more than just a learning experience—it was a space where the next generation of European citizens and leaders were inspired and empowered to take action in their communities. One of the participants, Anjali Subhash, a 23-year-old from Germany, shared her reflections on the exchange. Anjali shared that the exchange in Pärnu, Estonia, was inspiring and exceeded her expectations with its welcoming atmosphere and impactful activities. She also said that she learned the importance of collaboration, storytelling, and adaptability in effective advocacy. Subhash pointed out that the event boosted her confidence and provided practical tools to initiate advocacy projects in Berlin. When asked about any advice that could be given for future participants, Anjali recommended to stay open-minded, engage fully, and don’t hesitate to share your ideas. About her next steps after the exchange, the German participant shared that she plans to expand awareness campaigns in Berlin, needing resources, mentorship, and networking for sustained impact.

This enriching experience in Pärnu is just one of many exciting opportunities to come. We have a series of other Youth Exchanges planned for 2024 and 2025. To participate, it's important to stay tuned to our social media channels for updates on registration periods. This project represents a collaboration between various institutions dedicated to uniting Europe’s youth and spreading knowledge on crucial political and social topics.

Voices of the Next Generation: A Week of Youth, Solidarity, and Empowerment in Sighișoara, Romania

In March 2025, young people from Germany, Spain, Romania, Italy, Estonia, and Czechia came together in the picturesque city of Sighișoara, Romania, for a transformative week-long youth exchange titled Voices of the Next Generation. Hosted by the local organization AUM, this Erasmus+ project was designed to empower youth to reflect, connect, and speak up about the world they want to shape.

Each day of the exchange focused on a meaningful theme, weaving together personal growth and social awareness through dynamic, non-formal learning activities. The journey began with teambuilding games and icebreakers to build trust and community. As the days progressed, participants explored solidarity, volunteering, self-expression, inclusion, and finally, reflection, tying together everything they experienced.

Workshops encouraged critical thinking and creativity—through roleplays, open debates, storytelling, and even a treasure hunt exploring the layers of solidarity. Participants also shared their personal stories during the Arch of Solidarity, learned about real volunteering opportunities, and discussed how to create more inclusive communities. Evenings were full of cultural sharing, with intercultural nights representing each partner country, as well as fun social activities like karaoke and game night.

The group was hosted in Hotel Casa Wagner, right in the heart of Sighișoara’s medieval citadel, adding charm and inspiration to each activity. With a balanced daily schedule including four workshop sessions, free time, and reflective circles, the program aimed to keep energy high while supporting meaningful personal development. At the end of the week, participants received their Youthpass certificates, recognizing their learning achievements.

Voices of the Next Generation was not just about dialogue—it was about action. Participants will now become ambassadors for youth participation, solidarity, and inclusion in their home communities. Through follow-up content including documentaries, social media campaigns, and blog posts, their voices will continue to echo across Europe.

Stay tuned to the official Instagram and Facebook pages of the project, and follow our journey as we continue to go loud, tune in, and speak up for the values that unite us all.

Voices of the Next Generation: A Week of Solidarity, Self-Expression & Youth Empowerment

Last month, the medieval city of Sighișoara, Romania, became the heart of an inspiring international gathering. Voices of the Next Generation, a dynamic Erasmus+ Youth Exchange, brought together young people from Germany, Spain, Romania, Italy, Estonia, and Czechia to reflect, connect, and take action on some of the most pressing issues facing their generation.

Hosted by Asociatia AUM, a youth organization dedicated to non-formal education and community development, the project was designed to explore key themes such as solidarity, volunteering, communication, social inclusion, and active participation. Through a carefully crafted week-long program, participants dove into daily reflections, team challenges, cultural sharing, and creative workshops—all aimed at empowering youth to raise their voices and drive positive change in their communities.

Each day focused on a central theme:

  • Solidarity: Exploring its meaning at both personal and global levels
  • Volunteering: Understanding its power in shaping active citizenship
  • Communication & Expression: Finding and using your voice in society
  • Inclusive Society: Promoting respect, acceptance, and diversity
  • Reflection & Evaluation: Celebrating growth and recognizing individual journeys

Activities ranged from energizers and team-building games to thought-provoking roleplays, storytelling sessions like the Arch of Solidarity, and hands-on creative tasks. Participants shared their personal experiences, engaged in debates, collaborated in workshops, and explored the beautiful surroundings of Sighișoara during guided visits and intercultural evenings. The evenings included cultural nights hosted by each country, karaoke sessions, and group games—fostering not just learning, but genuine connection and fun.

Throughout the project, our videographer Francesca also created short documentaries capturing their insights and voices—powerful outcomes that you can watch on our partner’s (Cesta Rozvoje) YouTube Channel.

The exchange concluded with a celebration and the awarding of Youthpass certificates, recognizing each participant's personal learning and development throughout the week. Voices of the Next Generation proved that when youth come together across borders to share, learn, and collaborate, powerful things happen. This project didn’t just amplify voices—it created a space where they could truly be heard!

Voices of the Next Generation: The last project...

The fifth and final youth exchange of the Voices of the Next Generation project took place in the historic city of Weimar, Germany, bringing together participants from across Europe to explore the themes of media literacy, critical thinking, and youth journalism.

Hosted by European Youth Press, the exchange combined hands-on workshops, peer-to-peer learning, and cultural exchange in a city renowned for its intellectual legacy. Participants were accommodated at the European Youth Education and Meeting Center, where they engaged in daily activities, including four sessions per day, evening thematic events, intercultural nights, and a short film production capturing the spirit of the programme.

A special highlight of the exchange was the group’s visit to the Buchenwald concentration camp, an important and emotional experience rooted in the historical context of Weimar. This visit created space for participants to engage with heavy topics such as remembrance, misinformation, and the role of journalism in protecting truth and democracy.

Each national team was accompanied by a team leader, who contributed energizers and teambuilding activities to help maintain energy and connection throughout the week. Our facilitators, handpicked from European Youth Press, brought expertise in journalism and peer-led education, ensuring that sessions were both professional and highly relatable to the young audience.

This final exchange not only marked the conclusion of the Voices of the Next Generation youth mobilities but also sparked new conversations about how young people can take an active role in shaping media narratives in their communities.

A big thank you to all our partners, participants, and supporters. The journey doesn’t end here — content captured in Weimar will soon be shared across our Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok channels as we continue to engage new audiences and strengthen youth voices across Europe.
