Project Overview

“Hands On Development Work” is a KA220-YOU Erasmus+ cooperation partnership focused on increasing civic engagement and participation of young people and youth organisations in development work. The project encourages understanding and action around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the EU’s development policy, using non-formal education as a transformative tool.

What challenges are we addressing?

Youth today face growing global challenges—climate change, social inequality, and marginalisation. While many are motivated to act, they lack the access, tools, and knowledge to become effective change-makers. This project bridges that gap by empowering youth and youth workers to actively contribute to sustainable development and global citizenship.

Objectives

- Strengthen youth engagement in development work and SDGs;
- Create innovative non-formal learning tools and experiences;
- Build youth worker capacity across Europe;
- Promote youth-led community actions and policy engagement;
- Increase awareness of the SDGs among young people.

Target Groups

- Young people aged 15–30;
- Youth workers and educators;
- Youth organisations interested in development cooperation;
- Migrant and minority youth motivated to contribute globally.

Activities

- Research – Evaluating the impact of European youth in development aid;
- Training – A course for 24 youth workers to gain expertise in SDGs and civic engagement;
- Toolkit & Pilots – Youth-designed activities for 60 young people across partner countries;
- Dissemination – A multilingual platform, social media campaign, and awareness videos;
- Multiplier Events – 6 large-scale presentations to reach over 180 key stakeholders.

Through this project, NYH and its partners aim to foster inclusive, youth-led development and build a generation of informed, responsible global citizens.

💬 "Young people are not just the future—they are the present. Let’s give them the tools to shape it."

3rd Transnational Meeting in Tallinn, Estonia

From 15th to 18th May 2025, partners from Malta, Spain, Italy, and Hungary came together in Tallinn, Estonia for the 3rd Transnational Meeting of the Erasmus+ project. Hosted by local partner (NYH), the meeting was a key moment for reflection, coordination, and planning the final steps of the project.

Throughout two days of productive sessions, we focused on:

  • Reviewing the outcomes of the training for youth workers and youth-led local activities.
  • Planning dissemination strategies in each partner country and at consortium level.
  • Preparing for the final report and addressing administrative requirements.
  • Sharing insights, feedback, and ideas for sustainable impact.

Beyond the meeting rooms, participants enjoyed the chance to reconnect during shared meals and explore Tallinn’s Old Town, ^ Park, and the Baltic Sea coastline on a cultural walk.

This 3rd transnational meeting marked an important milestone — strengthening our collaboration and ensuring alignment as we approach the final phase of the project.

A big thank you to all our dedicated partners for their continued engagement and enthusiasm!

The project is supported by the Maltese Agency for Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps from the Erasmus+ program.
