Maarja Village is a residential community for adults with special needs. It consists of seven houses: Sõbra Maja (Friendship House), Saksa Maja (German House), Eesti Maja (Estonian House), Rootsi Maja (Swedish House), Põhjala Maja (Nordic House), Vana Maja (Old House), and Metsa Maja (Forest House).
Additionally, there are various workshops and a village center building where different activities take place. Inhabitants participate in a range of workshops and activities, with a weekly schedule created to guide their involvement.
My main responsibilities in the village include supporting inhabitants throughout the day in art workshops, household tasks, clay work, music activities, and more. We also spend time together playing board games, going for walks, and organizing various workshops and activities. Daily routines are essential, and we ensure that everything runs smoothly and follows the established schedule. Some residents require more assistance than others due to mobility challenges. Taking initiative is always encouraged, so you can organize different types of workshops and activities based on your interests to add to the weekly schedule.
It’s important to recognize that Maarja Village is distinct from Tartu; it’s a unique environment intertwined with nature. If you believe you can adapt to and enjoy a lifestyle that involves being around individuals with various needs and behaviors, and if you are committed to enhancing the well-being of people with special needs, Maarja Küla may be the right place for you.
