Date: 10th – 18th November 2023
City/Country: Eskişehir, Türkiye
What was the main topic of the project?
Edgar Thomas Nero Trumm –Inclusion of refugees.
Carol Väljaots –Inclusion of refugees.
Carolina Veebel – The focus was on analyzing migration reasons, both push and pull factors, in participating countries. As well as addressing current migration challenges in Europe through youth work, fostering tolerance and respect for migrants and sharing integration practices.
Darja Kašleva – Refugees, migrants, immigrants.
What were the biggest learning moments of the event for you?
Edgar Thomas Nero Trumm –It really put into perspective the situation of refugees in Türkiye.
Carol Väljaots – I learned about how different the refugee crisis is in different countries – something that is normal for us is totally different in some other countries.
Carolina Veebel – When each country made a presentation about the migration issue in their country.
Darja Kašleva – The moment when we were shown the refugee center, I had never been to such places and it changed my mind. People can go there to get help, to take things, to use the kitchen.
Do you have any plans to continue being active in the field? If yes, in which way?
Edgar Thomas Nero Trumm – Yes, I will try to get more involved on this in Estonia, especially on the youth level.
Carol Väljaots –Yes, I’ll keep being active in NYH and including this topic in the events that I’m organizing locally.
Carolina Veebel – Possibly, I study psychology so I think working with refugees in the future, when I have my degree, would be helpful and needed.
Darja Kašleva – I thought about volunteering in this field in Estonia. I have also donated items and money for the development of a refugee center in Estonia.
Would you recommend this experience to your friends? If yes, why? If no, why not?
Edgar Thomas Nero Trumm –100%, no doubt about that. It`s just an experinece that you can learn so much from and grow so much.
Carol Väljaots –Yes, the topic of refugees has been big and important for as long as we all can remember but for a lot of young people, this is not the reality.
Carolina Veebel – Yes 100%, because I learned so many new things during this one week, about myself, the topic, and other people. This was a unique experience and definitely worth every minute of it.
Darja Kašleva – Yes, because I think everyone should learn more about refugees and people who moved to other countries to understand them better and be more loyal to them.
Darja Kašleva – It was an incredible experience, I had a tremendous experience and met some cool people.
