Noored Ühiskonna Heaks (NYH) is promoting calls for participants for three European Solidarity Corps volunteering projects in Burgos, Spain, from September 2023 for 12 months.
1. GREEN HANDS BURGOS
Hosting Organization: Huerteco Association
Huerteco is an association focused on environmental education and food sovereignty as its reason for existence. The association believes in the importance of a sustainable lifestyle, trying to provide this vision at all times and through the implementation of its activities.
About the project:
The “Green Hands Burgos” project arrives at its 4th edition, hosting two volunteers in Ábrego Association and two volunteers in Huerteco Association. The main objective of “Green Hands Burgos” is to promote environmental education as well as to encourage rural development, through the activities that will be developed in the different organisations and through the activities focused on sustainable
development and environmental protection issues. Furthermore, the project will represent an opportunity for intercultural learning for the volunteers and entities involved, who will participate in the project to promote cooperation and solidarity, responding, as it did in the first edition of the project, to the programmatic strategy of the European Solidarity Corps, designed precisely to promote cohesion, solidarity, democracy and the active participation of young Europeans.
Main activities:
- assistance in the design and planning of activities on horticultural therapy, which are developed with people with autism and people with brain damage;
- assistance in the preparation and development of teaching laboratories aimed at primary school students;
- planning and implementation of educational workshops proposed by the volunteers themselves;
- assistance in the care and maintenance activities of the organic garden and corral;
- assistance and support in the activities of school gardens and outreach workshops;
- dissemination of the activities of the association (use of social networks, writing articles, creating posters for local events and promotional activities, etc.).
Profile of the volunteer:
- Available for the whole duration of the project;
- 18-30 years old;
- Resident in Estonia
- At least a basic knowledge of Spanish; ;
- A driving license is welcome but not necessary;
- Motivation to participate in the project and specific activities;
- Interest in the activities planned within the host organisation;
- Flexibility, patience, open-mindedness, team-work;
- Interest and willingness to face the intercultural experience proposed by the project and its challenges.
2. GREEN HANDS BURGOS 2:
Hosting Organization: Ábrego Association
The main mission of the Ábrego Association is to make society aware of the need to get involved in order to generate changes that improve and enrich people’s lives. The association’s main objective is rural development as a response to the global, and for this reason, it creates courses, spaces and meeting points in the rural world.

- assistance and support in visits to local producers and horticulturists for production, soil and cultural analysis;
- assistance in the design and planning of activities for those who live and work in the rural environment;
- support in the facilitation of courses dedicated to environmental protection;
- organization and implementation of workshops on environmental education, creative recycling, traditional practices, etc.;
- implementation of activities to promote active citizenship and the development of innovative activities in relation to the objectives of the association.

3. YOUTH EDUC(ACTION)
Hosting organisation: Voluntared.
Escuela Diocesana de Educadores de Juventud (Voluntared) is a nonprofit association and social action entity based in Burgos. Since its inception, it has promoted solidarity as a value and as a means to help strengthen the community and citizenship. It does this through socioeducational programmes, volunteering, training and recreational activities that enable the development of professional, personal and social skills. It has always paid particular attention to the social inclusion of the most disadvantaged groups, through the development of social, educational and work integration programmes that contribute to the promotion of a participatory and inclusive society.
About the project:
The “Youth Educ(Action)” project in Voluntared will involve two volunteers. “Youth Educ(Action) in Voluntared” is a project linked to education, socio-educational programmes and training activities as a social engine for change and as a means to help strengthen the community and citizenship. The project represents, first of all, a learning opportunity for all the actors involved. Intercultural and experiential learning using participatory and individual-centred methods as part of the community.
Main activities:
The main activities in which volunteers will participate in Voluntared are:
- Educational, training, recreational and leisure activities. Volunteers will assist in the design and planning of the activities and summer camps – they will help in the preparation of the material and support in the implementation of workshops;
- Social and educational projects. Volunteers will assist in the design and planning of activities and programmes, as well as their evaluation – they will participate in the production of the material and provide support in facilitating workshops and courses;
- Communication and Volunteering Office. Volunteers will support the dissemination of the association’s activities on the web and in the different social networks and will support the development of joint volunteer programmes between various third sector associations.
Profile of the volunteer:
- Available for the whole duration of the project;
- 18-30 years old;
- Resident in EU member countries or Ukraine;
- At least a basic level of Spanish;
- Motivation to participate in the project and specific activities;
- Interest in the planned tasks and the learning pathway described;
- Previous experience of volunteering or working in the sector;
- Interest in non-formal education methods;
- Interest and willingness to face the intercultural experience proposed by the project and its challenge;
- Flexibility, patience, open-mindedness, team-work;
- Communication and relational skills.
Practicalities:
The volunteers will live in a shared flat in the center of Burgos. The flat is composed of a kitchen, toilet, living room and 3 rooms. Volunteers will have double or single room and normally they rotate between them during the year.
All maintenance costs of the house are covered by Brújula Intercultural (project coordinator). The coordinator will also provide an amount (established from the ESC program) for the maintenance and pocket money (5 euros per day) that will be provided monthly. The travel expenses will be refunded on the basis defined by the European Commission. The volunteers will have Henner insurance.
Preparation:
Noored Ühiskonna Heaks will help with all the preparation for the volunteering experience.
