MODEL EUROPEAN UNION
Name of the project: Model European Union Sofia
Date: 6th – 9th July 2023
City/Country: Sofia, Bulgaria.
What was the main topic of the event?
Alisa Dubrovski – There were two main topic: Anti-Human Trafficking Directive and Media Freedom Act. The participants needed to make amendments based on the view of the political party which they were representing in the simulation.
Anna Borodulja – The main topic was European Union and it’s 2 acts – Media Freedom Act and Act against Human Trafficking.
What were the biggest learning moments of the event for you?
Alisa Dubrovski – I didn’t expect that this project requires to be so familiar with the legislative acts that were debated there. Since I didn’t have enough time to carefully read the legislative acts I couldn’t participate as much as I wanted in the debates since my arguments weren’t strong enough because I wasn’t aware of some small but important details.
Anna Borodulja – I have learned a lot of new vocabulary related to the topics Also, it was really nice to debate on certain political topics and come to the consensus all together, I think we learned a lot about teamwork and active listening.
Do you have any plans to continue being active in the field? If yes, in which way?
Alisa Dubrovski – I liked the MEU format. The only thing is that it requires time before the project to prepare for it. But I might consider going to another MEU in future.
Anna Borodulja – I used this project as an opportunity to learn more about the politics, human rights and public sector. Definitely want to continue learning about that! If by field you mean projects, local activities and active youth participation, the answer is absolutely the same – yes, yes and yes!
Would you recommend this experience to your friends? If yes, why? If no, why not?
Alisa Dubrovski – MEU is a great way to learn something new about the European Parliament and EU Legislation. Also it improves public speaking skills, debating skills, critical thinking and multitasking.
Anna Borodulja – Yes! It’s an amazing experience to get new knowledge and meet new people. You learn about new cultures and new topics that sometimes or even most of the time you don’t meet in your daily life.
Other comments or anything else you would like to share? You can answer in your mother tongue if you want!
Anna Borodulja – Definitely participate in future projects, it’s super cool!!!❤️
