Main Activities Developed:
- Language
The best way to learn a language is to get into this language environment. For a month I lived among Polish-speaking children and instructors. During this time I was able to learn to understand 50% of what they say and speak some Polish myself. There were also people from other countries with whom we developed English and taught each other our languages.
- Responsibility
We were in a camp with many children of different ages. I learned to take responsibility for them and what they do. Also for the events that were arranged.
- Social skills
Despite the fact that I am a very friendly and open person, it is difficult for me to communicate with a large number of people and speak in public. However, in the camp every week we had 30 new campers and several new foreign volunteers. This month I became much more confident because I interacted with all the people, helped with events, and most important was supported by other people.
- Survival in the forest
I have lived in the city all my life and rarely found myself in the conditions of life in the forest. So I had to learn how to live without electricity and water, chop wood, make fires, deal with tents, use a compass and walkie-talkies, and sleep in tents, hammocks, and on the ground. The whole daily routine had changed.
- Organizing
Every week the topic of the camp changed. In one of these weeks, I decided that I would help in organizing the plot of the camp and events, distribution of roles, etc.
P.S. I succeeded
- Be persistent
Sometimes you have to speak in confidence and be persistent to be heard.
A presentation without a computer
Since there was no electricity, I had to figure out how to present a country without auxiliary help. I made the flag of Estonia myself, told about the country, and showed and taught the children Estonian dance.
- Acting
For one week I had to play a role of a monster every day. Turned out I am great at playing monsters so I was told that I am the best witch ever (I hope that was a compliment).
