KOOLITUS
Name of the project: “LEVEL UP YOU(TH)” Training Course
Date: 03rd May – 11th May 2022
City/Country: Nicolosi, Sicily, Italy
What was the main topic of the event?
Kärt Inno – Politics, policies, decision-making and advocacy
Ksenija Akimova – The aim of the project was the introduction of the youth to a variety of problem solution tools and a policy making process. So the main topics included: policies, political competences, citizenships and active youth participation and problem and solution instruments.
What were the biggest learning moments of the event for you?
Kärt Inno – Steps to make a good policy.
Ksenija Akimova – “The biggest learning moment for me happened during one of the first days while making a task with a map.
In short: in teams we were asked to choose leaders to draw a map of Europe, frame it, then suggest on what we could do with that and take a vote. And in the very final round we were asked to destroy it (which my team did not do). During the entire process everyone was extremely confused about such a weird situation and had no idea what it was all about. However, in the end everything became clear after we got an explanation of what had happened: apparently it all was a little simplified representation of various political regimes (for example last one with map destruction was dictatorship).
And this fun and very representative activity was way more informative than any sort of political classes I had attended before. “
Do you have any plans to continue being active in the field? If yes, what?
Kärt Inno – I want to study political science.
Ksenija Akimova – “Actually yes! I would love to give a workshop and introduce more people to what a “policy” is or show them problem-solution tools. And overall I’d be happy to take part in more trainings to deepen my knowledge of various subjects from decision making processes to youth engagement.”
Would you recommend it to your friends? If yes, why? If not, why not?
Kärt Inno – Yes, I recommend it because I met people from different backgrounds and worldviews. I was able to practice the language and learn new things about politics. And I got a part of the wonderful Italian culture.
Ksenija Akimova – “Already recommended! This experience doesn’t only improve your knowledge of a specific topic but it raises cultural awareness, helps to improve soft skills and greatly broadens your horizon.”
