nyh volunteering teams greece solidarityNoored Ühiskonna Heaks (NYH) is promoting calls for 2 volunteers for Volunteering Teams project, which will take place from 20th July until 20th September 2022 in Thessaloniki & Halkidiki, Greece.

 

About the Project

The activities planned aim to promote solidarity among youth of different countries and regions. The format of volunteering teams is a perfect opportunity to involve in solidarity projects young people with fewer opportunities, usually more challenging to engage in the long term and individual activities. Furthermore,coming as a team with specific goals and reinforced support, will boost the acquisition of soft skills, such as team working,leadership, coordination, intercultural communication.

USB and NYH involved in the application are active in the two high priority areas addressed by the project. The main obectives of the project are tackling mental health issues related with covid-19, substance abuse, support and protection of vulnerable groups and promoting social inclusion and opportunities in marginalized areas.

 

Vacancy 1: SOCIAL INCLUSION AND YOUTH ACTIVATION IN RURAL AREAS – 2 Volunteers
JULY-SEPTEMBER 2022 (2 MONTHS)

Description of the activity:

The volunteer team will work in Municipality of Aristotle, in Halkidiki. Volunteers will engage in activities with the USB local group and local volunteers such as:

  • Provide both online (radio, social media) and offline (events, in-presenceactions) opportunities to address the topics of health and social inclusion
  • Organize media campaigns in cooperation with local associations
  • Deliver intergenerational workshops on how to use social media tools tosocialize and combat loneliness
  • Contribute to the creation of two libraries in two different villages.
  • Support the restoration of places for social interaction and activities

These activities will happen in cooperation with the local community, promoting social inclusion, volunteering and opportunities in the framework of European projects, such as the European Solidarity Corps.

Volunteer’s Profile

We are looking for participants aged 18-30, with interest in media topicswith motivation to join the activity. Relevant skills and knowledge ofmedia tools is appreciated, but not required for participants.

Volunteers in this activity should also be aware that they will be called toengage in some physical type of volunteering work (like painting, workingto organize the libraries and installing the radio station). The program is Volunteer Teams, and doesn’t exclude you for individual ESC long term or short term.

The working program will be 6 hours per day, normally from Monday to Friday. In various occasions, participants may becalled to work on weekends. In that case volunteers will haveextra free days within the week.

STRATONI(HALKIDIKI)

Stratoni is a community of 1057 inhabitants in the Municipality of Aristotelis, situated on the northeastern coast of Halkidiki peninsula, in northern Greece. It is mainly famous for its mines as it is surrounded by mountains. Though most of seaside Halkidiki is flooded by tourists each year, Stratoni does not attract many of them, keeping a lower and more quiet profile during the summer. The village became known after colonies of endangered sea horses were found in its waters in 2007, which are unique in the Greek marine habitat and they are strongly protected by environmental and marine life associations.

*The organisation will provide 150 euro per month as food allowance (and 150 euro as pocket money).

NEA RODA (HALKIDIKI)

Nea Roda is a community of 1.164 inhabitants in the Municipality of Aristotelis, situated on the northeastern coast of Halkidiki peninsula, in northern Greece. It was created in 1923 by greek refugees from Asia Minor. Thanks to its landscape and calm waters, it attracts numerous tourists during the summer and its economy is based on tourism, while it isalso recognised for its fishing tradition. Throughout the summer, various cultural events and festivals take place, revitalizing the village and creating a pleasant atmosphere.

Vacancy 2: SUPPORT FOR DISADVANTAGED GROUPS –  1 Volunteer

03/08/2022 – 29/09/2022

This volunteering team will support the inclusion of people from vulnerable groups incooperation with ARGO Social Enterprise.

During the project, volunteers will:

  • Support ARGO Social Enterprise with their inclusion activities with former drug addicts;
  • Design new activities for ARGO Social Enterprise to consider;
  • Help, whenever needed, any other group inside the Psychiatric Hospital of Thessaloniki.
  • Promote, through a close contact with the community, the cultivation of a healthy lifestyle.
  • The volunteers will have the chance to engage with a local social enterprise andinteract with patients and former drug addicts, and facilitate their social re-intergration.

Volunteer’s Profile

We are looking for participants aged 18-30 with interest in working with disadvantaged groups. Previous experience is appreciated but will not be prerequisite. The most important factor will be their interest and motivation to join the activities of the project.

The program is Volunteer Teams, and doesn’t exclude you for individual ESC long term or short term.

The working program will be 6 hours per day, normally from Monday to Friday. In various occasions, participants may be called to work on weekends. In that case volunteers will have extra free days within the week.

Logistics and Rights of Volunteers

We provide our volunteers with three meals per day through a catering service that prepares the food according to their preferences and allergies (there are also vegan and vegetarian options). In this way, the volunteers will have the possibility to get incontact with the Greek cuisine and culture, but at the same time on Saturdays and Sundays they can cook and enjoy their own food. In the weekly days the House Manager will prepare the breakfast. The kitchen is always available for the volunteers if they want to cook something more or add ingredients to their food. The volunteers will get a pocket money of 150 euro per month for their personal expenses. Also, volunteers will reimburse 100% of the travel costs up to 360 euros
