nyh volunteering teams spain bulgaria farm Noored Ühiskonna Heaks (NYH) is promoting calls for 2 volunteers for Volunteering Teams project, which will take place from 6th until 24th September 2022 in Granada, Spain.

nyh volunteering teams spain bulgaria farm Description of the activity:

The activity in Spain is divided into two main blocks of shares, to which we add the reception and the closure.

Reception – upon the arrival of the volunteers they will have a more extensive introduction about the experience they are going to live, which includes the presentation of the organization, activities to get to know the environment and the host country, finish consolidating the group (who have already been working together online during the preparation phase) and training necessary for the correct development of their functions, as well as starting work on the learning process (which includes the Youthpass).

As for the two blocks, that will be implemented in parallel, they are fauna and flora.

The work of the volunteers will be carried out in the “Los Morales” farm, it is a reference center for the primary sector in research, training and genetic improvement, dependent on the Diputación de Granada (provincial government). Regarding the development of the agricultural sector, its actions are part of a global R+D+i policy for the field that aims to improve agricultural conditions through local species.

The lines of action of the farm are:

– Agricultural training, through the organization and development of specific courses on the subject.

– Promote research, through collaboration with other entities and groups.

– Genetic improvement and conservation.

– Development of crops that may represent an alternative or complement to existing, extensive and controlled by multinationals. Currently the farm “Los Morales” has destined its 371 hectares to traditional and experimental crops, collaborating with entities of the sector.

In this context, the volunteers will work in the management and feeding of sheep (native breed), land preparation, planting, natural fertilization, irrigation, pruning and harvesting, cleaning the forest, collecting seeds for the creation of the bank of seeds of Granada province, etc. In all these tasks they will be accompanied and guided by the farm workers, experts in their field and eager to share their knowledge. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn and deepen as much as they want in the different subjects, being able to take on simple or more complex tasks, depending on their interests.

Related to these tasks, some activities will be implemented to disseminate the work carried out on the farm and to raise awareness of its importance. Especially so that young people in the region are more interested in it and take advantage (also as a possible job opportunity) of this great resource that today is undervalued and underused. Some of the tasks will also be carried out in contact with the local community, so intercultural aspects will be worked on, generating spaces and moments for dialogue. In addition, all activities will serve to promote the European Solidarity Corps and encourage young people in the area (very remote and isolated from the more international life present in the capital) to access the opportunities that are offered.
