A total of 5.7 million people immigrated to one of the EU-29 Member States during 2018, while at least 2.8 million emigrants were reported to have left an EU Member State. These total figures do not represent the migration flows to/from the EU as a whole, since they also include flows between different EU Member States. (Source: European Commission) According to the latest available figures from the Turkish Directorate General for Migration Management (DGMM) currently there are approximately 3.644.342 (February 2019) foreign nationals present in Turkish territory seeking for the international protection.

Today’s Europe becomes a new home for vast number of migrants from other continents who flee from the military conflicts, dictatorship or other dramatic causes. The European states are adapting to new challenges where multicultural society is an expanding reality; some individuals and çivil society respond to the urgent needs and cope with the problems in various ways.

Moreover, migration largely affects youth, taking into account that tangible percentage of migrants are young people. In reality, many young people face discrimination at schools, universities and very often are subject to bullying. Nevertheless, youth are frequently excluded from the public debates and dicussions and their voice is not heard in majority of cases. As a reaction towards the recent migration crisis, partners decided to develop a training course with the aim to empower youth workers to use intercultural dialogue as a tool in combating intolerance towards migrants, fostering mutual understanding and creating better integration mechanisms in shaping more inclusive Europe.

The main objectives of the project are as follows:

-To provide conceptual framework on main notions, such as emigration, immigration, integration, interculturalism and multiculturalism

-To reflect on emigration and immigration situation in participating countries and find out the reasons of migration, namely push and pull factors

-To discuss and analyze the current migration challenges in Europe and try to offer solutions from the perspective of youth work

-To foster tolerance, respect and open-mindedness towards migrants while working with young people

-To share experiences and best practices of integration mechanisms
