Noored Ühiskonna Heaks (NYH) is promoting a call for 2 Estonian volunteers for the European Solidarity Corps group volunteering placement called “EURO BIKE TOUR” for 5 weeks, which will take place from 21st September to 27th October 2021 in Salento, South-Italy.

VulcanicaMente is a non-profit association founded in 2012 in Lecce, Italy, born as an open platform to offer opportunities in
international mobility, and intercultural and intergenerational learning. Our aim is to develop and enrich our land starting with the youth, in order to create a generation of active European citizens. We are a team of young vulcanic people who had the chance to grow up and learn thanks to European projects.
Description:
“Euro Bike Tour” is a volunteering project that aims to promote dialogue between European volunteers, institutions, and local community, with the aim of fostering constructive and supportive debate about sustainable mobility in a European context.
Volunteers will learn how to plan bike trip itineraries and later disseminate their unique experience. They will be deeply involved in this creative process and become active citizens designing social campaigns and events to raise awareness about sustainable mobility in Europe.
Location:
Lecce is a beautiful baroque style city in the very south of Italy, in the region of Apulia. More precisely, it is situated in Salento that is surrounded by incredible seaside and beautiful natural sights. Salento is rich in culture. The project covers the whole region of Salento.
Profile of the volunteer:
- aged 18-30
- resident in Estonia
- “We are looking for motivated, bright and energetic volunteers, eco-friendly and bike-friendly, who want to spread knowledge and share their skills. Therefore, volunteers should have a good motivation to ride; to learn and support VulcanicaMente activities; be interested in the project topic; be open-minded and respectful towards other people, spaces and cultures; be interested in non- formal education; willing to work in a dynamic team; be creative and proactive, proposing personal projects and ideas.”
Do you have any talent we should know about? For example: weld, fix a bike, use GPS programs, graphics, video, facilitation, cooking etc. Don’t forget to mention it in the application form!
NB! As it is group volunteering, you are eligible to apply even if you did a long-term EVS/ESC!
Activities of the volunteer:
You will volunteer 5 days a week up to 38 hours per week. You will have two days off per week for the duration of the project, except for the two weeks of the bike tour; these days off will be given afterwards. The weekly timetable can be changed in accordance with the staff of VulcanicaMente. Our organisation is based in Lecce and San Cesario di Lecce. Volunteers will get to experience workshops and outings by bike, discovering towns and surrounding countryside. The participants will have the chance to explore and understand the contexts where NGOs operate.
The activities are divided into 3 phases, before the bike tour, during and after the bike tour.

Accommodation:
21st September – 14th October in VulcanicaMente apartments in Lecce Centre, shared rooms according to gender
15th-27th October in San Cesario di Lecce in the countryside by Masseria Le Palmentelle
During the Euro Bike Tour (4th-14th October) the location will change according to the programme.
Food & pocket money:
The volunteer will receive 275€ for food and pocket money.
Travel:
The travel costs to the hosting organization and back home will be reimbursed up to 360€.
Preparation:
Noored Ühiskonna Heaks will help with all the preparation for the volunteering experience.
There are 2 placements for Estonians. Together the project involves 10 volunteers from Greece, Romania, Spain, Turkey and Estonia.
