Noored Ühiskonna Heaks (NYH) is promoting a call for participants for a Training Course called “Social Media and Social Movements” which will take place from 12th until 20th February 2020 in Paris, France.
SMM2020 is a training course that aims to support the professional development of young leaders and youth workers to raise the quality of their social media campaigns and knowledge on different platforms aiming social change. We will approach the idea of communication on different levels and include a hands-on Media Laboratory which will be the real practice. The training course uses methods of experiential learning as role plays, simulations and case study methods and group sharing methods as small and large group discussions.
In a time when Europe is facing uncertainty, while it is being challenged by multiple crisis, economic instability, Brexit, refugee crisis, Ukraine, many citizens are falling under the temptation to join either extremist or populist groups that are moving away from the original European idea, towards more xenophobic and authoritarian views, as such groups gain popularity by the day. As demonstrated by elections and referendums across many European countries, and the anti-EU movements gaining momentum. Young people, are amongst the most vulnerable to the messages spread by such groups, as are also the ones most affected by the economic uncertainties and the ones who feel most distant from the representative democracies, they live in.
In this scenario youth workers and youth organizations are ill equipped to face and counter the powerful and professional public communication of the hate-groups. The purpose of this training course is to equip youth organizations and youth workers with the necessary tool to be a voice as well, to be heard and follow, and to deliver their message, much different from the loud “hate” one, which is being heard more and more. For this purpose this training course aims at providing exactly those competences to effectively structure and deliver public communication, aiming at their peers, members and organizations, as well as to those young people who are not active in the youth CSO sector. To demonstrate that there is a choice, there is another voice, and ultimately that there is an opportunity to join the local youth NGOs.
