NOORTEVAHETUS

noortevahetus youth exchange nyh romania romaania estonia eestiName of the project: Active Citizens Can Change Our Community

Date: 26th April to 08th May 2018

Country/City: Milcoveni, Romania

  • What was the main topic of the event?

Volunteering and promoting voluntary work (mostly cleaning) in the local communities in Romania. Visited school and university and talked about pros and cons that were related to the topic.

  • What was the biggest learning moments on the event for you?

Anna: 1. For me the biggest learning moment was when I understood that I don’t have to do volunteer every day/week/month, I can do it when I want and how much I want to do it and it motivated me to think more about volunteering and how can I volunteer more in Estonia.

Kärt: The biggest learning moments for me were when we presented our ideas in the end of the sessions and also cleaning the village.

Aaron: If not the biggest then certainly one of the biggest learning moment for me would have been when we had an activity where we had to arrange a number of chairs equal to the number of people in a ring in a tilted position so when left not held onto for a brief amount of time would fall. We had to walk a circle with one hand per chair granted the chairs did not fall, so instead of hastily accomplishing the taste the regular way we positioned the chairs so that they would support each other and thus accomplishing the task with one try. This taught me to better think outside the box.

Kertu: The bigest learning moments were the beginning, just meeting so many different people. The first socialiseing events. Also the events where we needed to do something with our hands, like cleaning and communicateing with locals.

Birgit: Throughout the whole project i learned to value and appreciate the people and enviroment around me more than i did before. I learned more about different countries and voluntary work.

  • Do you have any plans to continue active in the field? If yes, what?

Anna: Yes I plan to continue active in the field. I would like to participate more in that kind of youth exchange up to 2 weeks where I can learn the topic by doing it myself.

Kärt: I would like to take part in another youth exchange, but I’m not sure yet when and what.

Kalli: I would like to participate in others youth exchanges too. And maybe after my graduation, I will be one of the organization’s workers. But not now.

Aaron: I would like to take part of many more projects to come and hopefully one day try to have a group of my own. Maybe even one day to organize a project. But only time can tell

Sten: Yes, at first simple things like picking trash up from the ground or telling others to do so. Perhaps organize special clean up days for parks, streets, fields and so on with people from the community. And teach people about the downsides and effects of littering.

Kertu: Yes, i really would like to be active in the field, i want to do more youth exanges and student exanges. I would like to take part of organizeing this kind of events.

Birgit: If yes, what? Definitely yes, i don’t have anything certain in mind right now, but i guess i just have to keep my eyes open and look for new amazing opportunities.

  • Would you recommend it to your friends? I yes, why? If not, why not?

Kalli: I already recommended it to my friends, because I had great experiences in Romania. I went there thanks to my organization

Sten: Of course I would. This project was a great opportunity to make friends, some who will perhaps be there forever and some who you may never see again, but loved every moment with them, learn different cultures and see how life is outside our own worlds.
